Where the boys were: Fort Lauderdale spring break over the years
From the end of World War II until the mid 1980s, Fort Lauderdale was a legendary spring break destination. It started with the First Annual College Swim Forum in 1936 and became more popular after the 1960 film Where The Boys Are. In the mid-1980's city official pulled the welcome mat for students and focused tourism dollars on families.
