CLEVELAND -
LeBron James jerseys used to be pretty common at Cleveland sporting events, but wearing a James Miami Heat jersey didn't go over well for a fan at the Indians game Wednesday night.
Clayton Carmen of Gates Mills was sitting in the bleachers with friends when he and everyone else in the stands saw a guy proudly wearing a Heat jersey bearing Lebron's name and new number.
"I understand it may have seemed like a joke at the time but I can't see that it worked out well for him," Carmen said.
Carmen shot video with his cell phone as the guy in the heat jersey made his way to his seat. He lifted the jersey as fans booed.
"Everyone in the entire section, Indians and Yankees fans were both booing him pretty hard," Carmen said.
"Everytime he went up and down the stands he was raising his hands showing it off turning around showing it said James on the back," Paul DeLuca said. He said fans seemed more entertained by the guy in the Heat jersey than the game.
After a few innings, security approached the fan and checked his ticket. They tried to move him to another area of the stands, but everyone was so tuned in on the jersey they had to ask him to leave.
"I'm not going to begrudge anyone their wardrobe choice but you wear something like that there you are either stupid or doing it on purpose I think he did it on purpose," DeLuca who is a native of Pennsylvania and grew up a Steelers fan said. Would he wear a Steelers jersey to a Browns game? "No," he said.
Maybe someday a Lebron James jersey will be accepted again, but right now many say the wounds he left with the way he departed from Cleveland are just too fresh.
